Sieben
Sieben is my one-man show. The songs are built, layer on layer, by violin and loop pedal. Plucks, bows, strums, beats from the body of the violin, building in intensity. Over this, I sing and I solo. I work in albums, usually themed. Each of the songs add to the themes of the album. Desire Rites (released Ocober 12th 2007 by Trisol/Iceflower) is my most personal, most straight-talking album I've done to date. The loops are more urgent, more 'modern', the beats heavier - and I've added bass to this album too. I worked on this album alone, without any guests on this release. High Broad Field was released in 2006. Its a double disk - the album, plus a DVD film to accompany the album. A sort of modern York Mystery Cycle play of an album. Ogham Inside The Night was released in 2005. The Ogham album is about the world around us, how we make sense of it, how we name it. The Ogham alphabet blends nature, music and language - three themes I always return to. Sex and Wildflowers does what it say on the tin ;-) Other than this I've released a load more solo, band, and a few other Sieben albums. I teach Music Performance at Red Tape studios in sheffield, England. I produce albums for other people - and occasionally play some session violin for various artists. I love playing live, and do it as often as I can. I've done well over one thousand gigs in my time. So far...
