We Are The Ocean
In just three years, London’s We Are The Ocean have proven to be a formidable force in the UK rock scene. Their passionate sounds, rooted in post-hardcore though forging their own distinctive path, have garnered a devoted following, one which has been fortified through relentless touring, both as headliners and in support of heavyweights such as Funeral For A Friend, The Blackout, You Me At Six and Fightstar. And if this isn’t impressive enough, the band – whose oldest members are only just twenty-one – did all of this without the backing of any label and on the strength of a self-financed 7-track EP, which limited to only one thousand copies, sold out in just two days during their July 2008 tour.
From their first sessions together, their commitment to making great music has driven them on. “The first time we met up in a rehearsal room and jammed together we clicked straight away,” enthuses screaming vocalist Dan Brown. “We didn’t start out playing covers, we started writing our own music straight away. We’ve always made sure that we have fun, but we take the music very seriously. All five of us have always known that this is what we want to do, and there are no guarantees, but we’re determined to give our all and make what we can from it.”
